Terms of Sale

If you have any questions regarding our item descriptions or their condition please refer to our item and discount abbreviation charts or contact our sales department.


  • All items offered are subject to prior sale. We encourage you to order by telephone, fax, or on-line.

  • If a reasonable partial order is unacceptable, please make this clear when ordering by mail. Otherwise, a refund for the difference will be issued with your order.

  • Prices quoted cover cost of goods only and may change without notice. Tax(es) are extra where applicable.

  • Shipping charges are non-refundable.

  • Unpaid orders will only be held for you for 21 days. Payment before this date is appreciated. Without payment or contact from you, your order may be cancelled with no further notice.



  • All goods are priced in Canadian funds. If necessary, credit card orders will automatically be converted to your own currency.

  • As a convenience only, approximate US dollar prices are listed on non-Canadian mailings. Please use a currency calculator for your own calculations or call us if you have any questions.

  • An additional fee will be charged for Canadian import orders. Click here for more info.

  • Pick-up & Taken orders are final. Please take the opportunity to examine your order before leaving the store. If you are not satisfied with the quality of an item you may exchange it before you leave the store. If a replacement item is unavailable, we may offer a discount or cancel that item from your order.

  • Open your shipment right away. If you are not satisfied with the quality of an item we will attempt to exchange it or offer a discount on the item. If neither is feasible please follow our instructions below to return the item.

  • All items (except final sale items) bear a company identification sticker or stamp. This marking must remain on goods to allow their return.

  • A Return Authorization Number must be obtained within 30 days of payment in order to return items. Call us for this number and instructions on how to return an item.

  • Items returned or cancelled for reasons other than an error on our part, may be subject to a 20% re-stocking and handling fee!

  • Shipping charges are non-refundable and return shipping costs will not be reimbursed.


  • All merchandise is carefully inspected and is assured to be in excellent condition unless otherwise noted.

  • All items are graded according to the demand for that item as well as the amount of wear or use. For example, a dinner plate that has long been discontinued with minor knife marks might be discounted by ten or twenty percent. Our customers have said that such an item fits perfectly with the rest of their service.

  • We have seen evidence that manufacturers will pass or miss items with small flaws. Hand artistry of the various levels of the manufacture processes dictates that no two items will be exactly alike. Some people feel these individual qualities are flaws. A more realistic view would be that no piece of china is perfect. While we prefer not to purchase factory "seconds", we may accept a factory flawed item if it does not interfere with the use or appearance of the item. However, we will discount the item accordingly. In the event that an item does not meet your expectations, you may exchange it. If a replacement item is not available you may return it. Shipping fees in this case are not refundable.


Our policy on condition is:

All items listed for sale are in excellent condition unless otherwise noted.

Therefore, we do not buy chipped, cracked, crazed or worn items. (Unless their demand warrants it)
This means we
MAY purchase and sell "as is" items at a reduced price. These exceptions can include:

  • a dinner plate with an unnoticeable, tiny chip under the edge.
  • a vegetable bowl with a cracked lid (the lid would be no charge).
  • a sugar bowl with a crazed lid (the lid would be no charge).

Most of our customers will agree, it is almost impossible to use your set and not have some signs of use. And it is not practical for you or your guests to sit down to a dinner and use plastic cutlery, so dinner plates especially, can show knife marks. Consequently, excellent condition dinner plates can sometimes be difficult to find.

Many customers are looking to replace damaged items and don't want to buy another "as is" item, especially if they can't see it first.

Customers are welcome to visit our showroom in Pickering to view pieces firsthand before buying.

When considering a purchase from Old China Patterns Limited, it is important to remember that used items are likely to show signs of normal use. This means that even we consider to be in "excellent condition" may show some minor wear if they are in demand or hard to find -- but not more than expected from reasonable use.

Since we are dealing with discontinued patterns, many of them are quite old, it can be difficult to obtain items that are NEW. Therefore, we have learned (through our buying experience) where to draw the line between excellent and excessive wear.

Since 1966, it has been our practice to offer quality discontinued items at competitive prices. For 30+ years, a proven traditional pricing method was followed knowing that we were offering fair and realistic value to our clients.

The success of the internet has meant a worldwide supply of discontinued and hard to find products are readily accessable to the consumer.

Our 40+ years of buying complete services has resulted in certain patterns/items becoming overstocked. Conversely, items with lower production levels and high breakage rates (serving pieces, soup bowls, sometimes even cups, dinner plates) are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain.

Worldwide competition and sound business practices have made traditional pricing methods impractical. While we maintain our committment to providing quality products & service at fair and competitive prices, we have changed our pricing methods and perspectives to improve as a company. We feel these improvements offer significant benefits to our clients, buyers & sellers alike.

Our new pricing methods translate into ;

  • Highly competitive "Regular" selling prices.
  • Exceptional value on "Special" items with low customer demand and/or high supply.
  • Excellent resale values for individuals with dinnerware for sale.

On occasion we have the opportunity to offer items for sale on a consignment basis. Before we do, we thoroughly inspect the items for flaws as we normally would. This way, you receive the same quality products and service at exceptional prices. However, consignment items are sold as "final sale".
